My GOD, you absolutely expressed every single reason why I loved this episode so much. I, too, said it was the best of the series, and without a doubt, will be the standard upon which all others will be judged.

The episode had everything: humor, pathos, drama, incredible music, emotional moments, tender moments.... when it was done, I felt as if I had seen a 2:30 hour movie.

I noted that you compared the show (in a very good way) to "Pushing Dasies," which I, too, loved. I really hope "Glee" doesn't end up the same way that "Dasies" did, because this show needs to have a long, properous life, with many awards and for many years to come. "Glee is changing the face of TV AND music as we know it. The naysayers will only have to figure it out... in time.

Fabulous analysis here. I was utterly riveted by last night's episode - a wonderful feeling for me, because I had been feeling that Glee had not been living up to the level of Awesome embodied in the pilot.

Kurt's narrative in this episode heartbreakingly evokes that defining moment of adolescence - not of innocence lost, but of innocence relinquished. By deferring his own dream to spare his father any pain, Kurt becomes fully adult - and that transformation happens on his face, in his voice and in his body during the course of that song.

Honestly, I think it was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen on television.

And it reminded me of the real reasons why I write for children and young adults - to find that moment, both lovely and dark, when we leave our childhood behind. We feel so alone, and yet it is the step that binds us into the larger human family - moreover, it is the step that we can never undo.

Weeping happened. Several times during this episode, I wept. My teenage son shed his own tears... though far more discreetly than I. Was that episode worth the two week wait? Absolutely. It was perfect.

When I saw you say this was the best episode ever, on Twitter, I just assumed it was your usual excitement over a new episode. Then I watched it this morning. I was blown away. Sue made me cry. I could tell that she was trying to be nice, but I didn't really know why.

I loved the Artie/Tina stuff. I'm glad they didn't make it simple and just have Artie accept her revelation without pause. It just gives Artie so much more depth and makes him seem more realistic. It would sting to know that the person you liked for who they were was faking their disability.

I really loved this episode more than I can say.

Oh, see, the way I interpreted that moment with Will was that he was reacting to the fact that they do *tons* of "chocolate" songs all the time. Just last episode, he did "Bust a Move"! And then of course there was "Thong Song," "Hate on Me," "Push It," etc etc.

What I found most telling was how quickly and smugly Will brushed off Mercedice's request for more "Chocolate" songs. He continues to present the appearance of a "21th Century man", who is sensitive to all minorities, yet only when it serves his priorities. He sees stereotypes, like Sue, without recognizing that there is a person behind them.

Awesome review. Best detail - your comparison of Kurt's voice breaking on the high F to Tina's fake stutter. You rock! :D

You've hit on one of my favorite things so far. Everyone started as these outrageous stereotypes, and that's turned a lot of people away so far. But episodes like this are peeling back the facade and taking characters from stereotypes to unique entities.
