Tru Calling Season 2

by Rob on April 28, 2005

I’ve been watching the S2 Tru Calling episodes the last two days, and I am completely astounded to announce that I love them. If the show had started this strongly in the first place, I wouldn’t have been as apathetic about its cancellation. S1 was like the experiment that led to the much more confident, solid episodes of S2. All of the extraneous characters from the first season have been gotten rid of, and it instead focuses on the characters that worked: Tru, Davis, Harrison, and Jack. And Jack adds actual, genuine conflict for Tru (which was missing from most of S1), so it’s not only how-will-Tru-save-this-person as it used to be, but a game of wills each episode between the two of them. Further, the concept is played with much more than in S1, which, with very few exceptions, was the same story over and over and over again. In an episode I just saw, not only did the day rewind more than once, but there was a logically consistent reason for the second rewind, and all the clues ended up fitting together beautifully in the end. This could’ve been a great show. I didn’t buy S1 on DVD, and don’t plan on it, but if it ever comes out, I would definitely get S2.
